The activity of Zn in Sn-Zn-Cu liquid
alloys has been determined by the method of equilibrium vapour saturation at
the temperature 873 K under controlled argon pressure. As this method is a
comparative one, Sn-Zn alloy has been used as a reference mixture. The
interaction parameters
have been calculated by a last-squares
method.
The activity coefficient of Zn in Sn-Zn alloy has been described by the means of Redlich-Kister polynomimal and Krupkowski formula. This way it has heen determined how much the description of the reference mixture influences the final result.
The thermodynamic data obtained in this study and the results of previous works dealing with Sn-Zn (Ag, In, Ga) alloys combined with other data, such as electronegativity, ionic volumes and electron density will enable proposing the thermodynamic model for calculation interaction parameters in ternary Sn-Zn-X alloys.
